Savoring Sardinia: A Journey of Gratitude
As Kelly and I recently said our goodbyes to the group and closed the books on another unforgettable journey, I find myself reflecting with gratitude for the many moments shared with wonderful people! Sardinia has quietly held a special place in my heart ever since my first visit, and to finally share it again with travelers who took a small leap of faith and chose a destination less traveled, it was nothing short of extraordinary.
Sardinia is still an undiscovered treasure for most Americans. Unlike Tuscany, Lake Como, Venice and the Amalfi Coast, it hasn’t yet become a must-see destination for everyone. But that’s changing, as the Sardinians are welcoming visitors with open arms. Our group this year was fortunate enough to discover its charm before the crowds eventually arrive. If you’re adding places to your travel bucket list, I highly recommend Sardinia, whether with Jason’s Journeys or on your own.

The Sardinian Way of Life
What makes Sardinia so special isn’t just its rugged mountains, pristine beaches, or charming towns. It’s the people and their way of life. Food, family, and friendship is so cherished here, in ways that inspire anyone in their midst, you really must experience it.
Being one of the world’s five official Blue Zones, that is a region known for longevity, Sardinia has a deep connection between land, table, and community. Meals aren’t just nourishment; they’re celebrations. Much like Italy and other European countries, growing and harvesting their food within a very small radius, is the essence of Zero Kilometer living, and the heartbeat of Sardinian culture. And our group felt that deeply—gathered around tables filled with local wines, rustic breads, handmade pasta, and the laughter of new friends.
The weather was on our side, with early September feeling much like a tad cooler extension of summer. Two breathtaking days on the water in boats gave us glimpses of Sardinia’s aquamarine coves, while quiet afternoons in the countryside reminded us of its simple, grounding beauty.
A Journey Through Sardinia
Our itinerary gave us the chance to see Sardinia from every angle—three nights in each region, each with its own rhythm and soul:
Cagliari – A vibrant southern city where history, cuisine, and the sea converge. With five-star accommodations at Palazzo Doglio, we were spoiled with comfort and charm.
Su Gologone in Oliena – Nestled in the mountains, this remarkable property was more than a hotel, it was an experience property. Here, tradition, art, food and hospitality wove together seamlessly.
Golfo Aranci by Costa Smeralda – On the northern coast, our days ended with sunsets over the water and nights filled with laughter at the timeless Gabbiano Azzurro Hotel.
Each stop added a different brushstroke to the portrait of Sardinia, and together, they painted a picture we’ll never forget
More Than a Trip
Every group we travel with becomes a family of sorts. What continues to thrill me, even after years of leading journeys, is the way strangers become friends. This Sardinian journey was no exception. The warmth, generosity, and kindness shared by each traveler left a mark that will long outlast any souvenir.
The hugs and tears through our goodbyes reminded me why I love this work. From Bella Sera in Pittsburgh to a shared table in Italy, it has always been about connection and hospitality. These journeys are simply an extension of that calling, and I feel humbled and most grateful to play a part in them.

Looking Ahead: Jason's Journeys 2.0
As we look toward 2026, I’m excited to share a new chapter for Jason’s Journeys… what I like to call Jason’s Journeys 2.0.
We’ll continue offering a few published trips (like our upcoming Tuscany and Amalfi journeys, but we’re also creating opportunities for smaller groups of friends, couples, or even privately organized crews to travel together.
We’re hoping to do a total of six journeys for 2026. Three are already set: one is fully reserved by a Journey Captain with 20 travelers in early June. The other two I just mentioned above. This is where you come in: if Sardinia or another destination speaks to you, we’d love your participation. Simply complete the Journey Form on our website and let us know where your heart is calling you.
Until Next Time
To our Sardinia travelers: Thank you for making this journey so unforgettable. Your laughter, adventurous spirit, and friendships are the reasons I love what I do.
And to those of you reading along from home, maybe it’s time you discovered Sardinia, or another hidden corner of Italy for yourself. We’ll be saving you a seat at the table.
Yours in travel and food,
Jason

Tuscany in September felt timeless—golden hills, rich flavors, and history at every turn. But what made it unforgettable were the people who became family.
